Well I can hardly believe the week has already gone by and that it is the weekend already. The saying over here is that the Days are slow but the weeks are fast. This definitely holds true.
The week saw our Doc be the first member of the team to go on Leave. Hard to imagine that it is already time for that sort of thing, but I guess it is. Before we know it, Christmas will be here and then we'll be coming home soon after. Doc, enjoy the time at home and with your Fiance. Come back safe...these "temp loan" docs are already getting on my nerves.
We also saw our first award be given out to a team member. Cpl. Johnson was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, or "Good Cookie" as it is sometimes called. This is for representing the ideals and values of the Marine corps, which he does quite well. LCpl. Ebeling heard "Cookie" and came running, only to be disappointed. We threw him a snickers and he got over it though.
The team has started doing MCMAP everyday to advance to the level of Green Belt. MCMAP is the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and is a requirement for all Marines to participate in to some level. Green belt is the 3rd level and teaches you just enough to get beat up. It'll help the Marines when it comes time for Promotions and evals, not to mention it takes up some of the down time.
For anyone back home that wants to get involved, we are going to be working on a school to help clean it up and give the kids a better place to learn. I know some people have expressed interest on how they can help out and this would be a great way. By no means do any of you have to but if you'd like to do something, this would be a good way to impact the children directly. Besides the team likes to hand out things to the children, so I thought I'd mention it.
I hope everyone is safe back home and know that you are in our thoughts as much if not more than we are in yours. Your support is something that can't be replaced so please continue to send messages and care packages. Thank you
Lt. Gilliland
