Saturday already. Wow the time is flying by, which I guess is a good thing, but the pace as been pretty fast. Team 3 is making the most out of this deployment and working the hardest out of all the 2/11 CA Teams in Ramadi. If you hear otherwise don’t believe it. Team 3 is the only team that has to stand post, make chow runs, and still go on mission. All with out so much as a groan in dissatisfaction (well, that might be pushing it just a little too far). My point is that they are working hard and doing a good job at it.
In past updates I’ve talked about soccer and how the Iraqi’s are continually better than the Marine teams they play. Before now it was just a rumor, but it has been confirmed, as we saw an infantry unit play one of the Sheik’s teams. The Sheik even bought the Marine Team Jerseys and offered them a coach. They put up a good showing but in the end lost 6-2.
Temperatures are getting into the triple digits, so we are sweating a lot these days. Between the heat and all the gear we wear, it can make any Marine wish for air conditioning. Luckily we do have A/C, but things are only going to get hotter. We’ll be ready for it though. If it gets too bad, we have a plan to hire the Iraqi children to fan the Marines as they post security. 2 pencils gets you an hour of being fanned. It’s quite a good deal.
If you are ever curious as to what time it is here in Iraq, take a look at the “Time difference” link on our homepage and it’ll show you. So if one of us calls home in the middle of the night and wakes you from bed, know that you shouldn’t be mad because it’s just morning time here.
The funny story from Iraq this week has to be about the heads (bathroom) here. (Don’t worry, I’ll keep it clean.) We’ve come to realize that there are many things in Iraq that we didn’t expect, but the oddest has to be the size of the head, or more specifically the size of the person the head was built for. It’s a simple trailer with stalls, but for some reason it was built for a person who is the size of your average 3rd grader. Honestly it should be parked outside one of the elementary schools or used for a traveling circus. The stalls are so small that you actually have to tuck your feet in just to close the door and your shoulders are pressed up against the walls. Cpl. Vee and Cpl. Mia must have to go through quite the ordeal to use these facilities, but for some reason PFC. Oliveras has never complained.
I always tend to revert back to the same topics on here because life really is pretty simple here. If you want to hear about something more specific please just let me know. Thanks for your support and love.
